For Mac and Linux there is no license manager. The product is licensed automatically through our site license agreement.
PC with internet access, so any PC on the general purpose network (GPN) at CERN
Using the license server
Licenses can be obtained by connecting your PC to the CERN-wide NI license server. You can set it up by pointing your NI License Manager to licni.cern.ch.
Most software is available through the LabVIEW group, which you can freely add yourself to (Click on Manage as shown in screenshot).
Please note that the LabVIEW group however does not give access to DIAdem, which now has a limited number of licenses. Please contact LabVIEW support for access to DIAdem.
A script has been created which will automatically configure NI License Manager to point to the server, as well as register you to the LabVIEW group. You can find it here: script on DFS. (Your browser may give you a warning when downloading the script. It's generic for a script like this.)
Using the serial number
Please use the serial number to activate your NI products (if it has not been activated automatically).
You need a NI account to activate LabVIEW. If you don't have one, you can create one on ni.com. Please note that serial number will not not give access to DIAdem, which now has a limited number of licenses. Please contact LabVIEW support for access to DIAdem.
PC on the Technical Network of CERN, or on a trusted or private network without access to the internet
Does your PC have access to the internet: Can you access google.com? Then you have internet access, so just activate your software using the procedure PC with internet access (read previous paragraph).
1. Requesting license file
If your PC does not have access to the internet you should ask for a 'disconnected license file' to [email protected], sending the machine name and the machine ID.
This information can be found starting the 'NI license manager' in the National Instruments folder and click on the button 'Display Computer Information'. Send this info to [email protected]. We will send you the license file which you can upload with the 'NI License Manager' using Options/Install license file.
After installing an NI product, open the NI License Manager. (easily searchable in Start menu)
Click on the Computer Information button in the toolbar. A popup window will appear, showing the Computer Name and ID. Hover over the name and code and click on the Copy menu that shows up. You can then paste the code into email.
Please copy and paste the values rather than take a screenshot. It's much easier and less error-prone to copy text than to read images.
2. Installing the license file
Navigate to where you stored your .lic file and load it in to the license manager
(either from licni01Disconnected licenses... or locally where you stored the file, typically from a Jira case or mail)
Restart your NI applications and drivers.

You have to install the NI license manager (it is part of the LabVIEW installation) before you can get the computer information.
KNOWN ISSUE:
Even after the activation, you can get a splash screen saying that LabVIEW uses evaluation license. It's a known issue and it is described here:
To fix this issue you can either:
- Hide the evaluation license files
- Locate the license file for the evaluation version for your software. See Avoid Conflicts with Evaluation Licenses While Pointing to a Volume License Server. If you have any issues finding the <ProgramData> folder, or any other folders, see this Microsoft Support Article: Show hidden files.
- Rename the evaluation licence file or move it into a new folder. This will stop NI License Manager (NILM) from finding and opening the evaluation version of the software.
- Let the evaluation expire
- By letting the evaluation expire, the license will go into activated mode because it will reference the disconnected license.
Note: This issue has been fixed for NI License Manager 4.2.
